Viking, which started in Greenwood, Mississippi and is now owned by Middleby, popularized the professional-style range for home kitchens. Its line includes gas and dual-fuel ranges, rangetops, wall ovens, built-in refrigeration and dishwashers. We repair Viking ranges, ovens and refrigeration, diagnosing by model and serial number. On gas models we test spark modules, igniters and safety valves in sequence before replacing parts, and we use genuine Viking OEM parts when available.

Commercial-style cooking for home kitchens
Viking Range began in Greenwood, Mississippi, in the late 1980s with a simple idea: bring the look and output of a commercial range into the home kitchen. Middleby Corporation, a large commercial foodservice-equipment company, has owned it since 2013. Viking's line now covers professional-style gas, dual-fuel and induction ranges, rangetops, wall ovens, ventilation, built-in refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves and wine storage.
The ranges are where Viking's character shows. High-output sealed burners, heavy cast grates, deep oven cavities and heavy doors mean more heat, more mass and more mechanical stress than a typical residential range. Components like igniters, spark modules, door hinges and oven fans work harder, and diagnosis has to account for that.
Viking product lines and generations differ considerably, so the model and serial number, usually on a plate behind the kick panel, under a grate drip tray or inside the oven door frame, are the starting point for any repair.
Burners, igniters and ovens
Spark ignition is the most common Viking cooktop complaint. When a burner clicks continuously or won't light, the culprits are moisture or grease on the electrode after a boil-over, a cracked ceramic igniter, a burner cap that isn't seated, a failing spark module, or a switch at the valve stuck in the closed position. Viking's reignition feature, which restarts the spark if the flame goes out, makes a stuck switch especially noticeable.
Gas Viking ovens typically use a hot-surface igniter. As it weakens, the oven is slow to light or won't reach temperature. Dual-fuel models have electric ovens with bake, broil and convection elements, a convection fan, a temperature sensor and a control. Owners sometimes find that oven temperature drifts from the set point over the years. A technician confirms it with a proper thermometer test before adjusting calibration or replacing a sensor or thermostat.
Heavy oven doors put load on hinges and springs. A door that drops open, won't close evenly or leaks heat around its edge usually needs hinges or a gasket rather than a new oven.
Convection fans and their motors also wear, especially in ovens used heavily for roasting and baking. A grinding or scraping noise from the back of the oven, or uneven browning on convection settings, usually points at the fan motor or a loose fan blade. Self-clean cycles push oven temperatures very high, and they're a common moment for an aging sensor, door lock or control to finally fail.
Viking refrigeration, dishwashers and microwaves
Viking built-in refrigerators share the common faults of high-end built-ins: condenser airflow, evaporator and condenser fans, defrost components, control boards, ice makers and door alignment on heavy panel doors. Wine coolers and undercounter refrigerators depend on clear front-grille airflow. Viking dishwashers commonly need drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches or controls. Microwaves and microwave drawers involve high-voltage components and door interlocks, and internal repairs are strictly for professionals.
Because Viking has changed ownership and suppliers over the years, refrigeration and dishwasher parts are tied closely to the specific model generation. Getting the right part depends on the exact model number.
Viking ventilation hoods deserve a mention too. Their blowers, speed controls and lights wear like any hood's, and grease-loaded baffle filters strain the blower motor. Cleaning the baffles regularly, per the manual, keeps the hood moving the air a big range needs.
Heat, dust and hard water in the valley
A big professional range adds a lot of heat to a kitchen, and in a Las Vegas summer the hood, the refrigerator next to the range and the range's own cooling fans all work harder. Grease-laden hood filters plus fine dust reduce airflow, so cleaning hood filters regularly helps both the range and the room.
Viking built-in refrigerators and wine units pull room air across their condensers, and desert dust coats those coils quickly. Hard water around 16 to 18 grains per gallon scales ice-maker valves and dishwasher spray arms and heating elements, so filters, rinse aid and descaling matter. Spark modules and electronic oven controls can be upset by monsoon power events.
What to try before booking
For a clicking burner, turn off the burner and let it cool, then make sure the cap is seated flat and the burner head and electrode are clean and completely dry. A boil-over can keep a spark igniter clicking until moisture evaporates. For a burner that won't light, check whether other burners spark; if none do, the spark module or power supply is suspect.
For an oven that seems off, use an oven thermometer at the center rack and give it time to stabilize before judging. For refrigeration, check the grille and coils for dust, and make sure doors close evenly. Always shut off gas and power before removing anything more than grates and caps.
Sourcing Viking parts and deciding on repair
Viking parts move through a more specialized supply channel than mainstream brands, and lead times for boards, oven components and refrigeration parts can be longer. Igniters, spark modules, switches and common wear parts are usually easier to find.
A Viking range with a sound body, burners and oven cavity is almost always worth repairing. Ignition, sensor, element and hinge repairs are routine. Refrigeration repairs follow the same logic as other built-ins, where sealed-system condition and parts availability decide. We're an independent repair service, not affiliated with Viking or Middleby. Warranty work on a unit still under manufacturer warranty should go through Viking first.
