Houses, Condos, Rentals & Garages

Bosch is a German manufacturer (BSH Home Appliances) best known in the U.S. for very quiet dishwashers in its 100, 300, 500 and 800 Series, along with compact 24-inch washers and dryers, counter-depth refrigerators and wall ovens. We diagnose Bosch dishwashers and other appliances by model and serial number, starting with the stored error code. Bosch dishwashers use a leak-protection float that locks out the machine, so we find the actual leak source rather than just resetting it. Genuine Bosch OEM parts are used when available.

German design, North Carolina dishwashers

Bosch appliances in the U.S. are made and sold by BSH Home Appliances, part of the German Robert Bosch group. Bosch is best known here for dishwashers, many of them built at BSH's plant in New Bern, North Carolina, alongside ranges, wall ovens, cooktops, counter-depth and built-in refrigerators, and 24-inch compact washers and dryers. Thermador and Gaggenau are its premium siblings and share some engineering.

Bosch dishwashers work differently from most American designs. Water is heated by a heater built into the circulation pump, the so-called heat pump, rather than an exposed element in the tub floor. Drying relies on condensation on the stainless tub. Some higher-end models add CrystalDry, which uses a mineral called zeolite to absorb moisture and release heat. The machine sits on a base pan with a float switch that acts as an anti-flood system.

Two practical consequences follow. Wet plastic after a cycle is often normal, not a fault. And many Bosch problems announce themselves with very specific E-codes that point straight at the subsystem.

Bosch dishwasher codes that matter most

E15: water detected in the base pan. A float switch under the machine trips when water collects there, and the drain pump runs to protect the floor. The cause is a leak somewhere above: a door seal, a cracked sump, a loose hose, a leaking pump seal, or simply too much sudsing from the wrong detergent. Drying the base clears the code, but the leak source still has to be found.

E24 and E25: drainage. E24 usually means the drain hose is kinked, the sink drain or disposal is clogged, or a new disposal still has its knockout plug in. E25 typically points at the drain pump being blocked, often by glass, a fruit pit or a label, at the pump cover under the filter. E09 and E01 involve the heating circuit and heat pump, and E22 relates to a clogged filter.

Check valves, drain pumps and heat pumps are the main Bosch wear parts. Door latches and control modules round out the list on older machines.

A failing check valve in the drain path deserves a mention. When it sticks open, dirty water flows back into the tub after draining, leaving standing water and a smell. When it sticks shut, the machine throws a drain code. Both are inexpensive parts that are easy to misdiagnose as a failed pump.

Refrigerators, laundry and cooking

Bosch refrigerators fail much like other modern frost-free units: defrost faults, evaporator fan motors, ice-maker fill problems and water-valve or filter issues. Built-in Benchmark models have more electronics and tighter installation tolerances.

Bosch's 24-inch compact washers and dryers are a different world from full-size American laundry. Ventless condensation and heat-pump dryers move moist air across a heat exchanger instead of blowing it outdoors, and the lint filters and condenser have to be cleaned regularly or drying slows dramatically. Front-load washers need their drain filter cleaned and their door gasket kept dry. Bosch ranges, wall ovens and induction cooktops tend toward electronics and sensor faults, along with igniters and spark modules on gas models.

Bosch induction cooktops have their own logic. A zone that won't heat may simply be seeing a pan that isn't magnetic or is too small for the coil, and the error display usually says so. Genuine faults involve the power boards, cooling fans and the coils themselves, and those are jobs for a technician.

Las Vegas water is hard on Bosch dishwashers

Valley water runs about 16 to 18 grains per gallon. In a Bosch dishwasher, scale coats the heater inside the pump, which slows heating and can lead to heating codes. It also leaves a white film on glassware. Many Bosch models let you set the water-hardness level in the settings menu so the machine doses rinse aid and adjusts accordingly. Most come set lower than local water requires, so it's worth checking.

Rinse aid isn't optional on a condensation-dry machine in hard water. Without it, water clings, dishes stay wet and spots form. Bosch's compact heat-pump and condenser dryers also suffer from fine dust and lint on their exchangers, and newer Bosch electronics, like any, appreciate surge protection during monsoon storms.

Safe owner checks

For E24 or E25, turn the dishwasher off, remove the filter, and look for debris in the sump. On many models a small pump cover under the filter can be unclipped to check the impeller, and the manual shows how. Wear gloves, because broken glass ends up there. Check the drain hose under the sink and clear the disposal.

For E15, turn off power and water, and look for the obvious: a suds problem from using hand-dish soap, or a leak at a visible hose. If the code returns after the base dries, call for service. For wet dishes, confirm rinse aid is filled and the hardness setting is right.

Parts and the repair-or-replace judgment

Bosch dishwasher parts such as pumps, check valves, heat pumps, latches and seals are generally available. European-spec components, built-in refrigerator parts and compact-laundry parts can take longer to arrive.

A Bosch dishwasher with a sound tub is usually worth repairing for drain, latch or heating faults. A failed control module on an older machine is a closer call. We're an independent repair service, not affiliated with Bosch or BSH. Warranty work on a unit still under manufacturer warranty should go through Bosch first.

Looking for model numbers, recall notices or warranty registration? Those live on the manufacturer's own site: Bosch official site. We are an independent repair company and are not affiliated with Bosch.
