Sharp is a Japanese electronics company known in U.S. kitchens for its Microwave Drawer, along with over-the-range and countertop microwaves, and a range of refrigerators. We repair Sharp microwave drawers, over-the-range microwaves and refrigerators, diagnosing by model and serial number. Microwave work involves high-voltage parts that hold a charge after unplugging, so all testing is done by our technician, never by the owner.

A microwave specialist that added refrigerators
Sharp was founded in Japan in 1912 and became one of the best-known names in microwave cooking. In American kitchens, Sharp is known for countertop, over-the-range and built-in microwaves, and especially for microwave drawers, which slide out from under a counter or beneath a wall oven. More recently, Sharp has added French-door and other full-size refrigerators to its US lineup.
Those two product families need very different service approaches. A microwave is a high-voltage appliance built around a magnetron, a transformer, a diode and a capacitor, and the main repair concern is safety. A refrigerator is a cooling system with sensors, fans and a sealed refrigerant circuit, and the main concern is airflow and temperature control. Sharp's microwave drawers add a third layer: a powered drawer mechanism with its own motor, gears and position switches.
Microwave drawers: mechanism first
On a Sharp microwave drawer, a motor drives the drawer open and closed when you press the button, and switches tell the control when the drawer is fully closed. A drawer that will not open or close, stops partway, or opens and immediately retracts usually has a problem with the drive motor, the gear rack, the slides or the position switches. Crumbs, popcorn kernels and spills that collect in the track can jam the mechanism or confuse the switches.
If the drawer opens and closes normally but the food does not heat, the problem is in the cooking circuit instead: an interlock switch, the high-voltage diode, the magnetron, the transformer or the control board. Interlocks prevent the magnetron from operating with the drawer open, and they must never be bypassed or defeated. Because a drawer is built into cabinetry, removing it for bench service takes care with the mounting and the anti-tip hardware.
Countertop, over-the-range and built-in models
Common failures in Sharp microwaves include a blown main fuse, often triggered by a failing door switch; a weak magnetron, which shows up as slow heating; a shorted high-voltage diode, which can cause a loud hum with no heat; a turntable motor that has stopped; and a touch panel where certain keys no longer respond. Sparks or arcing inside the cavity usually come from a burned waveguide cover, chipped cavity paint or metal in the food.
Every microwave contains a high-voltage capacitor that can store a lethal charge even after the unit is unplugged. Internal repairs require proper discharge procedures and testing equipment. Owners should keep to external checks. On over-the-range models, the vent fan and lights are simpler, lower-risk repairs, and a greasy filter that restricts the fan is an easy fix. These models also take heat and steam from the cooktop below, so running the vent fan while cooking and cleaning the grease filters regularly protects the controls.
Sharp refrigerators in desert kitchens
Sharp refrigerators use electronic controls, multiple sensors and variable fans, like most current designs. A warm fresh-food section with a cold freezer suggests an airflow or defrost problem; both sections warming points to the condenser fan, a dust-clogged condenser or a compressor issue. Ice makers and water dispensers face very hard water in Las Vegas, about 16 to 18 grains per gallon. A clogged filter or scaled inlet valve screen causes slow fills, undersized cubes or no ice at all.
Fine desert dust collects on condenser coils quickly, especially in newer subdivisions near active construction or open desert. Clean the coil every few months and keep the space around the refrigerator clear. A refrigerator moved into a garage in summer will likely run beyond its design range, and its struggles in July may reflect the location rather than a defect.
Owner checks that are actually safe
For microwaves, check the outlet and breaker, make sure the door or drawer closes fully, and, with the unit unplugged, clean crumbs from drawer tracks. If a microwave is completely dead or smells burned, do not open the cabinet. For refrigerators, change the water filter on schedule, clean the condenser coil with the power off, and check that interior vents are not blocked by food.
Monsoon storms bring brief outages and voltage dips that can trip breakers or lock up electronic controls. Turning the appliance off at the breaker for a minute and restoring power is a reasonable first step before booking service.
Parts and whether to repair
Sharp microwave parts are generally available, though drawer mechanisms and some built-in components are more specialized. We are an independent repair service, not affiliated with Sharp; units still under the manufacturer's warranty should go through Sharp's authorized service network first.
For an inexpensive countertop microwave, replacement is usually the practical answer. Microwave drawers and built-in models, which are sized to specific cabinet openings, are usually worth repairing. Sharp refrigerators are worth repairing for fans, sensors, defrost components, controls and ice maker parts; a sealed-system failure on an older unit may favor replacement. We explain the options plainly so the choice is yours.
Looking for model numbers, recall notices or warranty registration? Those live on the manufacturer's own site: Sharp official site. We are an independent repair company and are not affiliated with Sharp.
